Abstract

In this study, we developed a methodology for using organic gelling agents, such as gelatin, carbomer (carbopol), and
agar, as semi-solid electrolytes based on alkaline or acidic gels. These gels can potentially address technical issues that
arise in batteries and fuel cells when liquid electrolytes are used to operate the devices. We investigated the performance
of solid electrolytes in alkaline and acidic media and characterized them physically, electrically, and electrochemically to
determine their functional properties. We also studied their resistance to ion transport under various conditions, including
the presence and absence of ethanol.
